OP Profile: WildChild

September 2nd, 2010

Hey Smeeters,

This week, we’re profiling one of our Teen OPs– WildChild.

WildChild is from Lithuania and has been on Smeet for over a year now. She was promoted about 6 months ago to guide and then promoted to Operator 3 months ago. Since then, WildChild has made Teen Smeeters feel welcomed and helped them get acquainted in the community. Here is what she’s said about her Smeet experience:

Smeet: Why did you join Smeet?

WildChild: A friend sent me the Smeet link asking me to check it out. Well I checked it and I really liked it. I’ve made lots of friends here and it seemed nice so I started to use it.

Smeet: There is a lot of slang used on Smeet, both in American and British English. As a non-native English speaker, how have you found it?

WildChild: To be honest, quite difficult. I kept asking people what the slang means and even googled some things. :)

Smeet: You’re a 16 and, on occassion, a chatroom can be a dangerous place for teen girls. Have you ever felt unsafe here?

WildChild: No, I’ve never felt unsafe here but there are times I didn’t feel good about some things people have said. But since I’m a Teen OP, I never feel unsafe and I feel good when I help other teens and make sure they stay safe as well.

Smeet: What’s your biggest challenge as a Teen OP?

WildChild: My biggest challenge as an OP is to be patient with people who refuse to follow the rules and teach them what they should do here and what they shouldn’t do.

Smeet: Any advice to new Smeeters?

Smeeter is a really nice place and there are a lof of amazing people. So I advise them to be polite and nice to other users and of course, follow the rules. And if they need any help and have some questions about Smeeter, they can ask OPs or guides– we are always happy to help.

Smeet: One last thing, just for fun, please share with us your favourite Lithuathian saying.

Wild Child: Žodis – ne žvirblis. The word – A sparrow

Keep up the good work, WildChild and thank you for being a great example for other Smeeters!

Focused On: Cardiff

You’ve probably heard of Cardiff, haven’t you? But what about the little details? Well, this blog entry is here to tell you all about that big, bright capital of Wales.

Judgement Day

August 31st, 2010

I have noticed recently that a lot of you have just received your results for GCSE’s or A-Levels.  Don’t worry, your hard work hasn’t gone unrecognised!

Firstly, congratulations of you got a good result. This means your hard work has had a positive outcome, and you’re on track for great things if you carry on in the same manner!

If you just missed out on the results you’d hoped for, don’t despair. Even though you haven’t quite accomplished what you’d hoped, you have probably still achieved good results nonetheless.

If you missed out by a long way and are struggling to understand why, you shouldn’t worry too much. Even if you failed your test, you can still re-sit, and companies will still accept you. There is no reason for you to feel down in the dumps – you’ve just finished a stage in your life!

Thoughts out to those who are going to be taking these all-important tests in the next few years – just keep up the hard work and you will pass!

Focused On: Newcastle upon Tyne

August 28th, 2010

Time for a new feature in the sMeet blog! Because sMeet users come from all sorts of areas, I thought it’d be good to investigate many different areas in the UK and USA. First up, we’re travelling north to NEWCASTLE!

Newcastle is within the county of Tyne and Wear, located in the North East of England. If you are a fan of geography, you’d like to know that it’s co-ordinates are 54°58′N 1°36′W. I apologise if this doesn’t make sense – i’m no fan of geography myself.

Celebrities from Newcastle include Cheryl Cole, Joe McElderry, Alan Shearer, and Ant&Dec. It also plays host to the professional football team, Newcastle United.

Facts about Newcastle upon Tyne:

The world’s first train was built there.

The lightbulb was first demonstrated in Newcastle.

People from Newcastle are called ‘Geordies’ because they were the only supporters of George I.

Newcastle is home to the first street, Mosley Street, to be illuminated by electricity.

Conde Nast claims it is one of the top 8 cities to visit.

It is one of only three cities to have an underground transport system.

The ambition of our new ‘Eye On…’ section is to attempt to teach you more about different areas, so I hope this is just the case. Thanks for reading folks!

What’s Hot: The News?!

August 26th, 2010

Hey guys, i’m going to be away in Turkey for a week, but I have scheduled some blog posts throughout this and next week. I have also scheduled this post for the exact time my plane departs, just to be a little taunting :)

Anyway, you may have noticed the title of this entry, and wondered how on earth the news has ever been more than dull, let alone entertaining. Well, a lot has been going on in the news this week, so i’ve hand-picked three of the most shocking and amusing stories from the lot.

This first clip has surprisingly swept the nation. Nobody really seemed to bother with the BT ad campaigns, until the main character announced her pregnancy.

Jane reveals all – take a look why this particular ad has been on the news this week.

Next up is something you’ve most probably heard or seen. This clip hasn’t technically been all over the news, but it has more to do with the news than the other two clips in this blog entry. You see, the clip is of a very peculiar event which happened on BBC news this week. Newsreader Simon McCoy made a harmless joke towards the weatherman Tomasz Schafernaker, who responded in a way he wouldn’t have if he’d have known the camera was actually on him…

BBC News Mistake – discover what Tomasz actually did by clicking on the link.

Now, the last clip I’d like to show you is rather more serious. It involves a very evil lady performing a very careless act with a helpless cat. I must warn you that if you can be easily upset or offended, it’d probably be best that you didn’t have a look.

Caught on camera – click to find out what happened!

Thanks for reading this entry folks, happy sMeeting!

OP profile: Sinea

August 25th, 2010

Hey Smeeters,

This time around, we’re profiling one of our +18 Zone Operators: Sinea.

Sinea has only been on Smeet a few short months but gained rapid popularity in the adult community. Sinea works hard to be a watchful eye over the 18+ world and provides the best advice and support to our new Smeeters. Here is what she had to say about her Smeet experience:

Smeet: What brought you to Smeet?

Sinea: I was look for than just a game, people to talk to, friendships, fun, etc and found that in Smeet.

Smeet: Have you made a lot of friends?

Sinea: I have made some friendships and the ones I have are good. [I even] have sisters and a brother now. Who said you can’t pick your family? ^^

Smeet: What’s the most challenging job job you have as an OP?

Sinea: Most challenging as an OP is to make sure people respect the rules and help people when thy are in trouble.

Smeet: How would you describe yourself to new users?

Sinea: I’m very patient with people, I’m always there to listen to problems and I can give advice but I think listening to people is the most important thing. I’m a mom and my kids and my husband are my everything. Those are the people I truly live for.

Smeet: Any words of advice or wisdom?

Sinea: Take life as it comes and make the best of it. Always trying to turn a negative into a positive gets you a lot further in life, never give up!

Bigger than big!

August 20th, 2010

Sorry for the delayed post folks, but I hope you’ve been enjoying the sMeet world just as much.

I was thinking recently, “how big is big?”. It is a challenging question, so i used the power of the internet to find things with record-breaking sizes!

World’s largest pizza – 500ft in diameter

World’s tallest building – 800m tall

World’s longest dreadlocks – 1.9m

World’s largest island – 2,130,800 km2 (Greenland)

The world’s longest word is 1185 letters long, here goes…

SERYL SERYL LEUCYL GLYCYLASPARAGINYL GLUTAMINYL PHENYL ALANYL GLUTAMINYL THREONYL GLUTAMINYLGLUTAMINYL ALANYL ARGINYL THREONYL THREONYL GLUTAMINYL VALYLGLUTAMINYL GLUTAMINYL PHENYL ALANYL SERYL GLUTAMINYL VALYL TRYPTOPHYLLYSYL PROLYL PHENYL ALANYL PROLYL GLUTAMINYL SERYL THREONYL VALYLARGINYL PHENYL ALANYL PROLYL GLYCYL ASPARTYL VALYL TYROSYL LYSYL VALYLTYROSYL ARGINYL TYROSYL ASPARAGINYL ALANYL VALYL LEUCYL ASPARTYLPROLYL LEUCYL ISOLEUCYL THREONYL ALANYL LEUCYL LEUCYL GLYCYL THREONYLPHENYL ALANYL ASPARTYL THREONYL ARGINYL ASPARAGINYL ARGINYL ISOLEUCYLISOLEUCYL GLUTAMYL VALYL GLUTAMYL ASPARAGINYL GLUTAMINYL GLUTAMINYLSERYL PROLYL THREONYL THREONYL ALANYL GLUTAMYL THREONYL LEUCYLASPARTYL ALANYL THREONYL ARGINYL ARGINYL VALYL ASPARTYL ASPARTYLALANYL THREONYL VALYL ALANYL ISOLEUCYL ARGINYL SERYL ALANYL ASPARAGINYLISOLEUCYL ASPARAGINYL LEUCYL VALYL ASPARAGINYL GLUTAMYL LEUCYL VALYLARGINYL GLYCYL THREONYL GLYCYL LEUCYL TYROSYL ASPARAGINYL GLUTAMINYLASPARAGINYL THREONYL PHENYL ALANYL GLUTAMYL SERYL METHIONYL SERYLGLYCYL LEUCYL VALYL TRYPTOPHYL THREONYL SERYL ALANYL PROLYL ALANYLSERINE.

Room profile: Captain Slaphead

August 20th, 2010

A user’s room is a reflection of their own personal style which means, in essence, an extension of themselves.

Captain Slaphead’s user room looks like something you would see on an episode of MTV’s Cribs! With 18 rooms, Captain Slaphead has brought a fine mix of fantasy and reality. He has everything from a Dragons’ Den to comfortable lounges.

Clearly, a lot of effort has been put into making this space so amazing!

Captain Slaphead, we salute you!
